Strengthening EU-Korea Cooperation | INSTAR’s Workshop with TTA on International ICT Standardisation

Last week, BluSpecs had the pleasure of hosting a highly impactful workshop in Nice, France, as part of our coordination of the INSTAR initiative. This event marked a key milestone in our growing collaboration with the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) of the Republic of Korea, following the signing of our Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in September 2024.
The workshop brought together representatives from the TTA, the European Commission, ETSI, and INSTAR’s European Task Force experts. The purpose? To deepen our alignment on international ICT standardisation and lay the groundwork for concrete cooperation under the Digital Partnership between the EU and South Korea.
Discussions focused on critical digital domains, including Cybersecurity, Cloud, Edge, IoT, the Internet, and Data. By openly exchanging standardisation roadmaps, the group successfully identified mutual priorities and areas of synergy that will inform collaborative efforts moving forward.
Key highlights of the workshop:
- Standardisation Roadmaps: We successfully exchanged detailed standardisation roadmaps and defined mutual priorities in the key technology domains, setting a clear path forward for the development and implementation of global standards.
- Strategic Collaboration: With the participation of experts from the European Commission, ETSI, and our INSTAR European Task Force, we reached significant strategic alignment on upcoming priorities.
- Concrete Next Steps: We defined actionable next steps and timelines for publishing joint roadmaps in Cybersecurity, Cloud, Edge, IoT, Internet, and Data, ensuring that both the EU and Korea work in tandem to address emerging digital challenges.
- 5G+/6G and Quantum: Discussions also kicked off around the European priorities for 5G+/6G and Quantum Technologies, where we presented our visions for the future and initiated conversations on joint roadmaps in these groundbreaking fields.
What’s next?
The discussions in Nice laid the groundwork for a forward-thinking approach to ICT standardisation, ensuring that both Europe and Korea are aligned in their strategies. Our next major milestones include finalising the joint roadmaps, advancing the work in Quantum and 5G+/6G technologies, and furthering the collaboration through international task forces.
INSTAR’s collaboration with the TTA is a testament to our commitment to strengthening international cooperation and driving digital innovation through unified standards that will shape the future of technology globally.
