Spanish Quantum Alliance – SQuA

19 May 2026 – Spain has taken a major step towards strengthening its technological sovereignty with the official launch of the Spanish Quantum Alliance (SQuA), a new industry association created to connect, coordinate and accelerate the country’s quantum technology ecosystem. The alliance, comprising 53 organisations across industry, academia, and research, was formally introduced at Q-Expo 2026 in Bilbao on May 18–19.

SQuA brings together corporations, universities, research centres, startups, and public-sector stakeholders to strengthen collaboration and drive progress across key quantum domains, including computing, communications, sensing, and enabling technologies. The initiative aligns with Spain’s national strategy for quantum technologies and reflects a broader European push to scale capabilities in a sector expected to see rapid global growth over the next decade.

Global interest in quantum technologies continues to expand, with market analyses estimating significant long-term economic potential across industries such as finance, energy, healthcare, and logistics. At the same time, European stakeholders have emphasised the need for stronger coordination to remain competitive internationally. In this context, SQuA aims to foster public-private partnerships, support talent development, and contribute to the emergence of a cohesive value chain at both national and EU levels.

BluSpecs will contribute its expertise in innovation strategy, digital transformation, and ecosystem building to support SQuA’s working groups and initiatives. These include advancing use cases with commercial viability, promoting knowledge transfer between research and industry, and supporting the development of standards and frameworks that enable market adoption.

The alliance is expected to play a central role in shaping Spain’s position within the global quantum landscape by facilitating collaboration, encouraging investment, and promoting awareness of quantum technologies among businesses and society.
