Q-Expo 2026 proved that Europe’s Quantum future is being built right now
Q-Expo 2026, organised by the European Quantum Industry Consortium (QuIC) and co-hosted by Bizkaia, gathered the brightest minds in Bilbao to transition quantum technology from theoretical research into active commercial deployment.
The event featured a fully integrated, two-day format that connected policymakers, investors, and industrial end-users. The core of the event focused on six major strategic pillars:
- Quantum computing hardware
- The development of an unhackable quantum internet
- Post-quantum cryptography cybersecurity
- Advanced sensing for healthcare and manufacturing
- Business readiness
- Securing a domestic European supply chain.
Key discussions and panels elevated the summit’s strategic focus:
- The Spanish Quantum Alliance: speakers mapped out the country’s national objectives, active working groups, and future leadership structures.
- The Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service: representatives detailed Spain’s Quantum Technologies Strategy 2025–2030, emphasising government frameworks to support tech adoption.
- BiQain (Bizkaia Quantum Advanced Industries): local leaders explained how the Government of Bizkaia is actively linking quantum advancements with strategic local industries to accelerate real-world use cases under the broader Basque Quantum (BasQ) framework.
Beyond policy, the event served as a major commercial networking hub. High-profile speakers and international pioneers gathered for exclusive events, including the Global Quantum Leaders Dinner and the Q-Expo Networking Dinner, which was supported by the Quantum Internet Alliance (QIA).
Q-Expo 2026 proved that quantum is stepping out of the lab. By uniting government strategists, hardware innovators, and industrial buyers, Bilbao solidified its position as the premier hub shaping Europe’s commercial quantum future.
