From fleet depots to flexible energy assets

More than 80% of electric-vehicle charging takes place away from public charging takes place away from public charging infrastructure. For fleet operators, depots, warehouses and fleet yards are becoming more than places to charge vehicles: they are emerging as key assets in a smarter, more flexible energy, system.

Join the Workshop “Integration of charging stations in fleet management for V2G Services” on 7 October in Brussels to explore how connected charging infrastructure, digital platforms and vehicle-to-grid technologies can help fleets support the energy transition while keeping vehicles fully charged and ready for the road.

Making fleet charging smarter

As fleets electrify, charging management becomes a strategic operational challenge. Fleet managers need to balance vehicle availability with changing grid demand, variable renewable generation and energy costs.

Smart charging and bidirectional technologies, including vehicle-to-grid (V2G), vehicle-to-building (V2B) and vehicle-to-everything (V2X), can help. In practice, a fleet of electric vehicles can operate as a distributed battery, absorbing energy when it is plentiful and supporting the grid when demand is high or disruption occurs.

Making this work requires more than connecting vehicles to the grid. It requires secure, interoperable and data-driven charging systems that can coordinate fleet operations, flexible capacity, demand response and voltage control in real time.

A workshop on charging platforms

The workshop will focus on the next generation of Charging Station Management Systems and the potential of software-defined charging stations. These systems can make charging infrastructure more flexible, scalable and open to third-party services, while supporting standardised communication and data sharing across the value chain.

The discussion will also examine how open platforms, common architectures and shared standards can support strategic industrial cooperation across the cloud-edge continuum.

Confirmed contributions include manufacturer pitches from Easee, go-e and Alpitronic, followed by a panel discussion with AMPECO and Pionix, the company behind the open-source EVerest platform.
