ELADAIS’ final event and its impact on health-tech advancements

On 30 June 2025, the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid hosted the Final Event of the ELADAIS project, a landmark moment marking the culmination of two years of innovation, collaboration, and progress in digital health. Funded under Spain’s UNICO I+D Cloud programme, ELADAIS brought together a national consortium of research institutions, hospitals, SMEs, and industry leaders to redefine health data interoperability in Spain and beyond.

The event served as a dynamic showcase of the platform’s achievements, welcoming stakeholders from across the healthcare ecosystem. Professors Ernestina Menasalvas and Alejandro Rodríguez González kicked off the day, setting the stage for a deep drive into the project. Brendan Rowan of BluSpecs then offered a comprehensive overview of the initiative, highlighting the sub-projects and the diversity of use cases that ELADAIS supported across Spain.

From there, the agenda moved into deep technical demonstrations. Minsait presented how the ELADAIS platform empowers hospitals to unlock the full potential of their data while safeguarding privacy. Juan José Cubillas Mercado provided a walkthrough of the platform’s architecture and security framework, while Carmen María Calvo Nogales explained the critical and complex OMOP data transformation process: a key enabler of cross-centre interoperability. Noe García Medel gave an intuitive demonstration of how hospital staff can interact with the platform in real-time, and Dr Jesús Troya added clinical perspective to the discussion, speaking to the platform’s real-world value.

Partners showcased some of the most innovative applications developed during the project. Veratech delved into their work on ETL processes essential for OMOP standardisation, while MS Management Solutions presented their approach to technical quality assurance. Francisco Caballero from TICsmart demonstrated the CroniCare platform, an intuitive digital tool aimed at improving chronic care for both patients and clinicians. Dr Jesús Troya shared how the platform is already reducing waiting times and improving medication access, helping streamline care for chronic patients. Hospital La Paz discussed the experience with the application of the platform, with Marisa Montes and Alejandro Rodríguez González providing insight into the clinical integration and impact.

The session wrapped with a live demonstration of DRIVE, a cutting-edge tool for drug repurposing research from Altavia Pixel, and closing remarks from Ernestina Menasalvas, who highlighted how ELADAIS has laid a strong foundation for future health data innovation in Spain.

ELADAIS is not just a platform, but a strategic enabler for a digital, secure, and standardised healthcare system. By fostering collaboration between hospitals, researchers and technology providers, the project has demonstrated the power of interoperable, federated health data systems. As Spain edges closer to the European Health Data Space, ELADAIS stands as a benchmark for what can be achieved when data truly works in service of people.
