Merlin. From lab to market

The Brief

Despite leadership in many research fields, Europe lags behind other world regions in the commercialisation of research results. Addressing this gap could add a significant amount to EU GDP.

The Commission sought to explore ways in which the results generated under the €100bn flagship R&D programmes could yield further commercial results through a programme of support directed at researchers from across the EU.

Our Solution

  • BluSpecs led a consortium of partners from the UK, Poland, Spain and Lithuania.

Over two years, an agile programme developed a route for researchers and early-stage technology developers to identify the commercial value of their outputs, develop strategies and network with investors and commercialisation partners.

    Activities included:

    • The development of a maturity assessment framework
    • Support to establish product-market fit through customer discovery and workshops involving 1,048 participants
    • Capacity building and networking

Research results addressed included; biochemistry, chemistry, medicine, ICT, IoT, industrial processes, and aerospace.
