International standardisation

The Brief

European leadership in AI, quantum, cybersecurity, 5G and 6G will not happen without standards that reflect European priorities. Standards are where technical detail turns into market power, yet Europe has often been underrepresented in the international rooms where those decisions are made. INSTAR tackles this gap. The project brings together European and international partners to align future standards on technologies that are part of Europe’s strategy, from Clou—Edge-IoT to data, eID and distribution ledgers.

Our Solution

A structured, stakeholder driven approach to standards coordination. Instead of fragmented inputs across multiple forums, we helped build a single framework where experts, workstreams and task forces work toward a shared vision. We convene and guide leading European stakeholders, from regulators and industry to research and SDO representatives, to agree priorities in AI, 5G and 6G, IoT, cybersecurity, data, quantum and DLTs. These priorities flow into:

  • A Standards Dashboard that tracks where and how European positions appear in international fora.
  • High level workstreams led by experienced ICT standardisation players, each focused on a specific technology domain.
  • Task forces that provide targeted input to trade and cooperation agreements and monitor implementation of international standards.

Results

A practical mechanism that turns strategic discussions into concrete contributions at ISO, IEC, ITU, ETSI and other key bodies, while also giving policy makers and industry a clear map of what is happening and where to act next.
